Inpatient Treatment

What is Inpatient Treatment?

Inpatient treatment and residential care are the same things. They both mean that the person receiving treatment is living at the treatment center. More specifically, the person is sleeping, eating, and living at the facility every day. Most inpatient treatments last for 30 days, some go for as long as 90 days. The duration is based on the needs of the individual. Throttle & Thrive offers programs of various lengths to accommodate the needs of those we serve.

During residential care, meals are eaten together in a family-type setting, although breakfast is very casual. The day is filled with various meetings, activities, group sessions, and individual therapies. Exercise is never mandated but highly encouraged in the late afternoon for those who have completed the detox process. After dinner, we attend outside meetings and or events before returning home for a good night’s sleep.

Inpatient treatment is specifically located in a home and not a commercial facility. We use the home to build stability, structure, comfort, and care into our daily lives. The home also provides the opportunity to build comradery with the other men. One of the most important aspects of inpatient treatment is the change of environment.

Is Inpatient Treatment Right for Me?

Only you can answer that question. Let us help you understand the larger context. Inpatient treatment has the highest rate of success statistically. By completely removing yourself from your past habits, friends, relatives, and environments, you’re the most free to heal and rebuild. One of the primary benefits of residential care is the environment. Our facility sets you up for success. You can feel it when you walk in the door. Finally, a place to come clean: physically, emotionally and spiritually. A place to take off the mask. A place to discover who you were created to be. We specifically design the home and systems to benefit you. This makes it much harder for you to fall into old traps. You also won’t be alone. The home will be full of our staff and also other clients. We often see that friendships are easily and quickly formed. Treatment offers most men a great sense of camaraderie. We also foster healthy competition. “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” – Ancient Proverb

What Should I Expect During Inpatient Treatment?

Expect to get into action. Expect to discover your identity. Expect to change for the better.

Expect that you’ll be pushed. Expect that you’ll compete.

Expect to eat great meals, sleep in a comfortable bed and get a clear head.

Expect a new sense of peace.

Expect that the promises of alcoholics anonymous will come true for you, if you work for them:

The Twelve Promises of AA:

1. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.

2. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

3. We will comprehend the word serenity.

4. We will know peace.

5. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

6. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.

7. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.

8. Self-seeking will slip away.

9. Our whole attitude and outlook on life will change.

10. Fear of people and economic insecurity will leave us.

11. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.

12. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.”

Expect to go to new places emotionally and mentally. Expect to learn new tools, skills, and ways of thinking. You’ll attend many various groups and types of activities. Some groups will be held in the home and others will require a short drive. All transportation is provided by Throttle & Thrive.

You’ll get to meet many men who have struggled with addiction in the past and overcome it. You’ll hear many stories of recovery and personal experiences.

You’ll have specific staff members investing in you along your journey through the program. Additionally, you’ll be surrounded by other men who are in a similar place to you. We will eat together, work out together and attend group meetings together. “Group meeting” is a loose term and can refer to recovery meetings, educational meetings or group activities. In general, the different types of meetings will help you learn something new or reinforce healthy actions.

On any given day, you’ll have three meals a day plus snacks, a hot shower, lots of engaging programs, meetings, and activities throughout the day and a clean, comfy bed to sleep in at night.

Residential Care

What is Residential Care?

Residential care and inpatient treatment are the same thing. They both mean that the person receiving treatment is living at the treatment center. More specifically, the person is sleeping, eating and living at the facility every day. Most inpatient treatments last for 30 days, some go for as long a 90 days. The duration is based on the needs of the individual. Throttle & Thrive offers programs of various lengths to accommodate the needs of those we serve.

Why is Residential Care different?

Residential care is different from Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment in that you will live and sleep at the facility continuously. Doing so allows you the space and time needed away from old habit and easy hangups to heal, regroup and recharge.

Residential care is typically the first step in the recovery process from a physical environment standpoint. Moving into the treatment center allows the detox process to begin which is followed typically by a 30, 60 or 90-day residential stay.

Medically-Assisted Detox

What is Medically-Assisted Detox?

Medically-Assisted Detox is the process by which toxins and drugs are removed from the body. If a man has been using hard drugs for many years, it may be necessary to use medications to assist the body in the detoxification process. Our doctors and medical staff examine each person individually to determine the best and safety detox process.

This process takes 2-10 days depending on the level of physical addiction and the overall health of the body. While some parts of this process are unpleasant, we do our best to keep you comfortable as possible.

What Should I Expect During Medically-Assisted Detox?

You will likely spend most of your time in bed and sleep a lot. When you’re awake, you’ll be free to move around the property and eat when and what you want. You will have your blood pressure taken every 30 minutes and you’ll be monitored day and night to ensure you’re handling the process.

What Medications Are Used During Medically-Assisted Detox?

The medications to be used during detox will be determined by the doctor.

In general, methadone is most commonly used for opioid addition treatment. Buprenorphine and naloxone are other common medications.

After Care

What is After Care?

After care is perhaps one of the most important aspects of recovery and long-term sobriety. During treatment, you will develop life-skills and participate in several goal settings. We will take a deep dive into career, family, finances, social activities, community involvement and of course, develop a program of recovery.

We believe that the effort you put into yourself during the intreatment process will multiply once you are out of treatment. Success is shored up by the after care program that is developed while you’re at our facility.

Recovery is not a one and done thing. Recovery is a long journey; a trek, an adventure. Detox and treatment are just the very beginnings of the road of freedom, healing and life.

After care bridges the gap between treatment and getting back into regular life. We work with each man individually to custom-tailor an after care plan.
